Some people call them smileys or smiley faces, others call them emoticons. You can use these free smileys to express yourself.
They used to as simple (and boring) as typing a couple of characters, such as :).
Now you can get animated smileys, talking smileys and even smileys in 3D, with thousands of options.
You can use your smileys on Facebook, MySpace, MSN spaces, blogs, email, IM, and more.
You might be overwhelmed by all the sites out there offering free smileys.
Don't worry, this will make it easy.
The top three sources for dowloading your free emoticon online are Freeze Smileys, Smiley Central and Crawler Smileys.
Each has its own style and charm.
Smiley Central is my personal favorite, but everyone has their own tastes.
Good news - they are all free, so you can try them all and keep the one you like.
So I suggest you do this: Pick the one of the three that strikes you. If you don't like those, try another (bookmark this site).
Easy.
Here they are, have fun!
Next is the Crawler Smiley Toolbar. As I mentioned above, there is no telling which you will like. To get your emoticon from Crawler Smiley click here, or click on the pic.
Last, but not least, are emoticons from Freeze.com. You guessed it, you can get your emoticon from Freeze.com by clicking here, or there.
Did I say three? Well here is one more I just found out about, that looks a little different. It's from the folks who brought you SmileyCentral. Check this out! With Smiley Creator, you can actually customize your own Smileys. Reminds me of Mr. Potato Head. Sweet!

Note that the owner of this site (me) gets paid a small commission if you download and install one of these free Smiley products. Pretty sweet, huh? It's called Affliate Marketing. If you are interested in how this works, or want to make some money from your site, blog, or whatever, check out The Affiliate Program at Neverblue Network (also free). (I also get a commission if you make money with Neverblue, so it's all good.)
